5 Ways to Detox Your Life Now

Sometimes we get so caught up in routines and just being plain old comfortable that we don’t take time to allow things that no longer should be in our lives to fall away. And since it is the spring, I felt that this was the perfect time to reflect on each area of our lives and remove things that no longer belong.

One great way to start to detox your life is to take social media breaks. Social media has a way of making you feel some type of way about the way your life is going and even as if you’re not doing enough. Truthfully, we see what people want us to see and we can sometimes base our own reality on their façade. At least one day a week, stay off of social media for the entire day. Also unfollow people who are no longer in agreement with your lifestyle, doesn’t encourage or enlighten you, or who simply make you feel bad about your life. It will keep your feelings in check and make room for people who can pour into you and not drain you.

For your physical and mental health, remove foods, drinks, and habits that are not suitable for your healthy lifestyle. Do you snack a lot when you are watching tv? Be mindful of what and how much you are eating. You can begin to remove certain habits when you become intentional and mindful about what you are doing. We want to face our life with a clear mind and sometimes the things that we eat do not help with that. We want to take precautions so that we don’t have to do it later. Think about ways that you can better your health. Do you need a personal trainer to hold you accountable until you can do it on your own? Now is the time to work on that but only you know the things that you need to do. Could you use a therapist or life coach to help you through this season of life? Research them now so you can get started and take advantage if you have EAP or health insurance with your current employer. If you can’t afford it, then take one mental health day a month to just be.

And speaking of employer, how do you feel about your professional life? Are there some skills that you need to acquire? Do you want to change fields or want a promotion? Gaining more knowledge and skills not only helps you but also helps those around you. When was the last time that you read your job description? Are you doing more than that? Then its time to request a raise. Right now you could be reading books or taking courses to help you level up your skills. Where does the detox come in? Turn off the tv and use that time to work on your craft. You’ll thank yourself later.

And finally let’s talk relationships. Are there some relationships that have run their course and are out of season? Does this person suck you dry and never pours into you? It may be time to let it go or at least put some distance between you. How is your attitude in your relationships? Are there some things that you need to let go of and heal from so you can stop bringing it up in the relationship? We all want to be a great friend, but we have to get real with ourselves and where we are in life. How can you do that today? Take some time to journal about how you can be a better friend and what relationships and habits you have in relationships you may need to let go.
